A person who uses, attempts to use, or fails to use an AED, that acquires an AED, provides instruction in the use of an AED owns, manages, or is otherwise responsible for the premises on which an AED is located if the person or entity maintains the AED in a condition for immediate and effective use at all times, subject to the standards developed by the department of public health by rule, while acting reasonably and in good faith, who renders emergency care or assistance relating to the preparation for and response to a sudden cardiac arrest emergency, or a person who retrieves an AED in response to a perceived sudden cardiac arrest emergency, shall not be liable for any civil damages for acts or omissions arising out of the use of an AED, whether occurring at the place of an emergency or accident or while such persons are in transit to or from the emergency or accident or while such persons are at or being moved to or from an emergency shelter.

SB 505 2008 Clarifies the entities that are not liable for damages relating to the use of an automated external defibrillator.
SR 148 2008 A Resolution recognizing the lifesaving benefits of automatic external defibrillator devices, acknowledging the importance of raising public awareness of their availability, and encouraging persons to obtain appropriate training.
HB 2464 2004 Provides that the Iowa department of public health shall establish an automated external defibrillator grant program to assist in the distribution of automated external defibrillator equipment and providing training for said equipment for rural areas of the state.
